My Career Plan After Graduating from NUAA: Launching an Affordable Airline in Bangladesh

By Abdul Kaium Talukder 凯姆

Date:18th May,2025

Introduction

As an international student at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), pursuing a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, I am constantly shaping my skills and knowledge to achieve my ultimate career goal: launching a new, affordable airline in Bangladesh. My vision is to make air travel accessible to all classes of people, breaking the current monopoly of expensive airlines in my country.

Why an Affordable Airline for Bangladesh?

Bangladesh has a growing economy, a large population, and increasing demand for air travel. However, the current airlines are costly, making air travel a luxury only for the wealthy. My goal is to:

  • Reduce ticket prices

  • Increase domestic and regional connectivity

  • Create job opportunities

  • Improve aviation safety and efficiency

How NUAA is Shaping My Future

Studying Aeronautical Engineering at NUAA is the perfect foundation for my dream. Here’s how:

  1. Technical Expertise – Learning aircraft design, propulsion, and aerodynamics helps me understand how to optimize airline operations.

  2. Aviation Industry Exposure – NUAA’s strong ties with China’s aviation sector provide networking and internship opportunities.

  3. Research & Innovation – Engaging in projects on fuel efficiency and sustainable aviation aligns with my goal of cost-effective operations.

  4. Entrepreneurship & Leadership – Participating in student organizations and business competitions sharpens my management skills.

My Step-by-Step Career Plan

1. Gain Industry Experience (First 5 Years After Graduation)

  • Work with established airlines or aircraft manufacturers (e.g., Boeing, Airbus, or COMAC) to gain hands-on experience.

  • Specialize in aircraft maintenance, fleet management, or airline operations.

  • Learn about budget airline business models (e.g., AirAsia, IndiGo, Ryanair).

2. Build Financial & Business Knowledge

  • Pursue an MBA in Aviation Management or take online courses in airline entrepreneurship.

  • Connect with investors and aviation stakeholders in Bangladesh.

3. Launch My Airline (Within 10 Years)

  • Start with a small fleet of fuel-efficient, low-maintenance aircraft.

  • Focus on domestic routes (Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet, etc.) before expanding internationally.

  • Implement digital ticketing, cost-cutting strategies, and excellent customer service.

Challenges & How I Plan to Overcome Them

  • High Initial Investment → Seek government support, private investors, and aviation grants.

  • Regulatory Hurdles → Work closely with Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation Authority.

  • Competition from Existing Airlines → Differentiate with unbeatable prices and superior service.

Final Thoughts

My journey at NUAA is equipping me with the technical, managerial, and innovative skills needed to revolutionize Bangladesh’s aviation industry. I am determined to make air travel affordable for everyone and contribute to my country’s economic growth.
